Witch hazel

There’s nothing particularly witchy about Witch hazel, though its herbal powers might border on magical. Popular in the garden for its pretty foliage and flowers that range from yellow to flame orange, Witch hazel’s leaves and bark are used in herbal medicine primarily for their antiseptic and astringent properties. The tannins in witch hazel act as an astringent and applied externally help reduce swelling of hemorrhoids and varicose veins. It’s a true crossover herb, found in many common over the counter products like aftershave and facials toners and make-up removers, as well as traditional herbal medicine.
