Meet Earth Mama Mineral Sunscreen

Meet Earth Mama Mineral Sunscreens

Earth Mama’s sunscreens are thoughtfully crafted for adults, kids, and babies, and made with the most premium ingredients available. What’s IN them is just as important as what’s NOT. If an ingredient is available organic, we use it. Each ingredient is purposefully sourced with great consideration — and they either boost the sunscreen’s SPF value, moisturize or make sure it’s safely gentle on uber-sensitive skin. What’s not in them? Chemicals that are potentially harmful to people, coral reefs or the planet like:

  • Oxybenzone, octinoxate or other chemical sunscreens
  • Artificial fragrance
  • Nano particles
  • Parabens and artificial preservatives

P.S. Be honest – the first thing you think when you hear “mineral sunscreen” is pasty white, right? Worry not! It’s just visible enough to see the spots you missed during application. They’re sheerly amazing!

What Does SPF Really Mean?

SPF is the acronym for Sun Protection Factor, and it only measures protection from UVB rays — or short-wave Ultraviolet B rays. However, sunlight has two kinds of harmful rays: UVB rays, and long-wave Ultraviolet A rays. Mineral sunscreen (the Earth Mama kind) is formulated to scatter and reflect UVB/UVA rays without harmful chemicals.

The best sun protection you can give your baby is to seek shade and cover up.

The sun’s rays are the strongest between 10am-4pm so the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends minimizing sun exposure during those hours. Apply a bit of sunscreen to the face and any small exposed areas — but your best bet? Keep them in the shade.

For little ones under 6 months, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends keeping them out of the sun with loose-fitting clothes that cover all the skin.

And let’s talk about water-resistance: that just means a sunscreen is still effective up to about 40 minutes after exposure to water. So if you’re using sunscreen, re-apply often — about every two hours, water or not.

Finally, choose SPF under 50, as any higher rating might give you a false security.
