Trusting The Process

Bump Squad mama Kayawna on trusting her body's changes during this pregnancy.

Trusting The Process - Earth Mama Blog

Hello, I’m Kayawna this is my second pregnancy that my husband and I plan to have unassisted.

In my first trimester I struggled so much with food aversions, nausea and fatigue. On a normal day I start with tea, fruit smoothie, fruit, seeds, nuts, then salad, for dinner some creation I’m making up based from my taste buds and local farmers market fresh organic produce. By week 5 I was turned off from it all, besides tea for the most part. I couldn’t stomach most smells or even eat what I was accustoming to eating until my second trimester.

Eating a well-balanced diet and living a lifestyle in wellness is everything to me, so to speak. I didn’t go through this much food aversion with my first pregnancy. I usually drink almost a gallon a water a day and was down to 2-4 cups. That was also a struggle. I couldn’t understand what was happening and most importantly what to eat. I spent my days eating mango, avocado, cantaloupe, chick peas, kale and arugula. I’ve had my unhealthy indulgences, like the impossible burger twice with fries and I made my own nut-milk shakes often. Come to think about it, now that I’m in my second trimester, and I look back, I haven’t had one since my first trimester.

On top of my first trimester struggles, I have a little-one (19 weeks at the time when I found out) who is still nursing on demand. My nipples became sore over time and I still don’t know how I’m going to do this whole tandem nursing thing, except to take it one day at a time. The struggle is real on so many levels and what keeps me sane is going to the park or for a walk. The fresh air, birds chirping and palm trees daily, plus my mini yoga sessions, give me life now days. I’m also a full time online student, branding myself, working on expressing myself so that I can deliver my experience to those willing to see the vision.

Now that I’m in my second trimester my diet has pretty much gone back to normal for the most part. I’m not back to two smoothies a day but drinking almost a gallon of water and not having the same indecisive food aversions anymore. I have more energy but still need a nap when my son naps. My advice to all mamas is to allow your body to go through whatever it needs to and try not to over think it. I say this because I wasn’t eating a lot in my first trimester and still somehow, I gained 7 whole pounds. Seeing that weight gain reassured me that things are going in the right direction, despite my struggle. Thank you for taking time out to read my first trimester struggles and hopefully you can see the light at the end of the tunnel trusting, that this too shall pass.

I also want to thank Earth Mama Organics for the first box of goodies they sent me. The Morning Wellness Tea was perfect for my transition going into my second trimester. It helped me so much and I’m truly grateful to be a part of the Bump Squad 2.0.

Many blessings and good luck to all mamas along their journey. Trust the process and trust yourself.
